Commerce hosts final workshops on civilian-military compatibility planning

Contact: Carl Schroeder, Shannon McClelland

The Washington State Department of Commerce is seeking input to develop a guidebook that will help communities plan for growth and development around military installations. The guidebook is relevant in communities across the state where growth management and land use planning involve military operating areas.

The guidebook will include information for community members and technical assistance resources for jurisdictions that plan in accordance with the Washington State Growth Management Act (GMA). Content will address challenges and opportunities related to balancing the military’s need to operate safely and community interests within a shared landscape.

The last of eight community workshops are:

JBLM/Lakewood
Monday, November 19, 6 – 7:30 pm

Eagles Pride Golf Course, Exit 116 (Mounts Road) from Interstate 5, Tacoma, WA 98433

Spokane
Tuesday, November 27, 6 – 7:30 pm

Spokane Public Library, 906 W. Main Ave., Spokane, WA, 99201, Conference Rooms 1A/1B

An online survey is also available. The draft guidebook will be released for public comment in early spring 2019. The final guidebook will be completed by July 2019.
