During the 2018 legislative session legislators expanded the Public Safety Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS) Plan 2 member definition to include additional employees.
SHB 1558 expanded PSERS eligibility to include employees of a correction department operated by a city or county who have a primary responsibility to provide nursing care to offender and patient populations in institutions and centers operated by a city or county correction department. Current employees will have a one-time open window between January 1, 2019 and March 1, 2019 to elect PSERS membership or stay in PERS. New hires in the qualifying positions will be mandated into PSERS membership after December 31, 2018.
To help employees make informed decisions about their election opportunity, the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS) will be scheduling workplace education workshops and webinar presentations.
