In 2018, the Legislature passed a Supplemental Transportation Budget with a proviso directing the Department of Ecology to convene a workgroup to recommend a statewide program that would reduce fluid leaks from vehicles. AWC is a member of the workgroup.
The Legislature directed the workgroup to use the existing Don’t Drip & Drive program as a model. To date, the program has focused its efforts primarily in the Puget Sound region. However, the program recently launched in Spokane and Clark counties, as well.
The workgroup’s task is to develop recommendations on the form, function, and funding of a statewide program. Specifically, recommendations must include:
- Identifying an entity to manage the program
- Potential partners
- Scope of the program
- Funding requirements and sources
The workgroup held its first meeting on June 12 and will likely meet monthly. The workgroup must submit a report to the Legislature by November 1, 2018.
