Soliciting Legislative Priorities Committee members

Contact: Dave Williams, Jane Wall

In preparation for the upcoming 2019 and 2020 legislative sessions, we are seeking city officials interested in serving on our AWC Legislative Priorities Committee. We are seeking interest from 40-50 elected and appointed officials from around the state to serve a 2-year appointment. The committee considers and recommends legislative priority issues and positions to AWC’s Board of Directors. Those selected to serve by AWC’s President and Vice President can expect the following time commitments:

  • Four full committee meetings per year starting on May 30, 2018 at the SeaTac Airport Conference Center. There will also be a summer and mid-November meeting in the same general area and winter meeting in Olympia during AWC City Action Days (mid-February 2019 and late-January 2020).
  • At least one subcommittee meeting (members may serve on more than one if desired) before early fall. 10-12 person subcommittees might meet by conference call and will be broken into the following subject areas:
    • Land use/environment
    • Housing/homelessness/human services
    • Public safety/open government/emergency management
    • Pensions/liability/personnel
    • Budget & finance/energy
    • Transportation/infrastructure/economic development

We recognize that participation can be costly so AWC will reimburse for travel costs associated with the committee’s work, and we often try to include a call-in option for meetings during the interim.

If you are interested in applying, please complete this questionnaire no later than Friday, April 27. Please note, an application does not guarantee you a spot on the committee, but we will do our best to include representation from a broad cross-section of member cities across the state.

If you have any questions about the committee, please feel free to contact Dave Williams or Jane Wall.
