The <a target="_blank" href="http://leap.leg.wa.gov/leap/budget/detail/2019/ht1921p.asp">House</a> and <a target="_blank" href="http://leap.leg.wa.gov/leap/budget/detail/2019/st1921p.asp">Senate</a> 2019-21 biennial transportation budget proposals were released last week.
The House and Senate 2019-21 biennial transportation budget proposals were released last week. The House version proposes to spend $10 billion over the next two fiscal years while the Senate proposes $9.8 billion. Both budgets include funding for the state’s transportation-related agencies (Department of Transportation, Department of Licensing, State Patrol, etc.) and continued funding for capital projects provided in previous transportation funding packages, such as the 2015 Connecting Washington package.
The House proposal contains $25 million in funding for local culvert replacement through the Fish Barrier Removal Board, while the Senate proposal does not contain local culvert funding.
City-specific provisions of the budgets include funding for the Transportation Improvement Board, the Freight Mobility Strategic Investment Board, a study to continue inventorying city-owned culverts, and funding for a study on the electrification of public fleets.
A summary of major programs and proposed funding levels can be found below (amounts are shown in thousands).
