On Wednesday, February 20, the House Committee on State Government & Tribal Relations will hold a work session on ranked choice voting. Following the work session, the committee will have a public hearing on HB 1722. If passed, HB 1722 would give local governments the option to conduct their elections using ranked choice voting.

Ranked choice voting describes voting systems that allow voters to rank candidates in order of preference, and then uses those rankings to elect candidates. For example, instead of individuals seeking election to a specific council position, under ranked choice voting the top three vote getters would be elected to the three open positions.

The ranked choice voting work session and public hearing on HB 1722 can be viewed live or by archived video on the TVW website.
