<strong><a target="_blank" href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=5854&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2019">SB 5854</a></strong> is the proposal offered by the hauler&rsquo;s association as a solution to the loss of Washington&rsquo;s primary recycling market &ndash; China.

SB 5854 is the proposal offered by the hauler’s association as a solution to the loss of Washington’s primary recycling market – China. The bill would significantly limit the type of recyclables allowed to be collected in commingled recycling programs.

We are very concerned with this proposal as it would set cities back financially and lose ground on our state’s materials management goals – at a time when we should be taking bigger strides. AWC and individual cities testified in opposition to its companion HB 1795.

Dates to remember

SB 5854 will be heard at 10 am on Tuesday, February 19 in the Senate Environment, Energy & Technology Committee.
