Bill to address placement of sexually violent predators scheduled for hearing

<strong><a target="_blank" href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1825&amp;Chamber=House&amp;Year=2019">HB 1825</a></strong>, sponsored by Rep. Christine Kilduff (D&ndash;University Place), requires an individualized discharge plan for sexually violent predators subject to release to a less restrictive alternative placement.

HB 1825, sponsored by Rep. Christine Kilduff (D–University Place), requires an individualized discharge plan for sexually violent predators subject to release to a less restrictive alternative placement. Additionally, the bill adds requirements that must be met by the Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) prior to releasing an induvial into the community, including:

  • If a placement includes a residence outside the county of commitment, DSHS must present the court with documentation of efforts to secure an appropriate placement within the county of commitment.
  • Requires the DSHS to provide an assessment as to the appropriateness of the placement plan proposed by the individual and make recommendations for specific conditions of release that are in the best interest of the person and that are necessary to adequately protect the community.
  • Adds requirements regarding housing certain offenders in areas not within one-quarter mile of any school.
