<strong><a target="_blank" href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1537&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2019">HB 1537</a></strong> and <strong><a target="_blank" href="https://app.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1538&amp;Initiative=false&amp;Year=2019">HB 1538</a></strong>, both regarding public records exemptions, are scheduled for public hearings.

HB 1537 and HB 1538, both regarding public records exemptions, are scheduled for public hearings. Both bills were developed based on the 2019 recommendations by the Public Records Exemptions Accountability (Sunshine) Committee.

HB 1537 narrows the exemption on applications for public employment by excluding applications for vacancies in elected office from the exemption. HB 1538 clarifies certain exemptions including exemptions related to employee contact and vendor proprietary information. A live feed of the public hearing or an archived video we be available for viewing on the TVW website.

Dates to remember

Both bills are scheduled for hearings on Friday, February 8 at 8 am in the House State Government & Tribal Relations Committee.
