State to place Initiative 940 (<strong>I-940</strong>) on the November ballot.

On August 28, the Washington State Supreme Court affirmed the trial court, requiring the Secretary of State to place Initiative 940 (I-940) on the November ballot.

The initiative changes the legal standard for when an officer faces criminal liability for the use of deadly force. In April, the trial court ruled that the Legislature violated the State Constitution when they passed an amendment to I-940 before voting to approve the initiative itself.
