Cities partnered with the state's Business Licensing Service (BLS) must meet the deadline of October 17, 2018, to comply with new a state law requiring cities to adopt changes to their business license ordinance.

Cities partnered with the state's Business Licensing Service (BLS) must meet the deadline of October 17, 2018, to comply with a new state law requiring cities to adopt changes to their business license ordinance. The mandatory model license provisions include a minimum business activity threshold for non-resident businesses and a uniform definition of engaging in business. Failure to comply would preempt a city’s business license authority.

All other cities with business licenses must adopt the changes by January 1, 2019.

AWC worked with a group of cities to draft the model language to use in the ordinance. Check out AWC’s white paper for more information and a link to the recording of our August 8 webinar.
