Passage of <a target="_blank" href="http://lawfilesext.leg.wa.gov/biennium/2017-18/Pdf/Bills/Session%20Laws/House/2970-S.SL.pdf"><strong>SHB 2970</strong></a> directed the Transportation Commission to “…convene an executive and legislative work group to develop policy recommendations to address the operation of autonomous vehicles on public roadways in the state….”
Passage of SHB 2970 directed the Transportation Commission to “…convene an executive and legislative work group to develop policy recommendations to address the operation of autonomous vehicles on public roadways in the state….” The Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Work Group will remain in place through 2023.
Five subcommittees have been established to assess challenges and needs, and generate recommendations to the AV Work Group’s Executive Committee for consideration. These include:
- The Licensing Subcommittee
- The Liability Subcommittee
- The Infrastructure & Systems Subcommittee
- The Safety Subcommittee
- The System Technology & Data Security Subcommittee
