A Streamlined Sales Tax (SST) Advisory Committee began meeting in December 2017 in order to provide a report to the Department of Revenue (DOR) by September 1, 2018.
A proviso in Sec. 136(3) of SSB 5883, the 2017-19 operating budget required DOR to:
- Analyze revenue gains under remote sales tax fairness (HB 2163) vis-à-vis SST Mitigation; and
- Consider online sales and streamlined sales tax mitigation trends for areas with a significant concentration of warehousing distribution and manufacturing centers.
DOR believed cities would be better positioned to lead the considerations of mitigation trends. The SST Advisory Committee includes:
- Cities
- Association of Washington Cities
- Chambers of Commerce
- The Northwest Seaport Alliance
- Department of Commerce
- Legislative staff
The advisory committee report will be included in DOR’s report to the Legislature. Additional details of the report will be released later this year.
