The Senate moved E2SHB 1570 forward on Wednesday, February 28 providing a permanent increase to the document recording fee by raising the amount to $62 from the current $40. The program is estimated to raise approximately $55 million per biennium for homelessness supports in all corners of the state. A long sought after elimination of the sunset rule will provide a consistent and sustainable funding stream into the future. The statewide fee provides a level of consistency across all counties which removes the politics of funding homelessness.
The Senates amended version will now need concurrence with the Houses version before being sent to the Governor.
AWC supports and encourages concurrence of the two chambers differences in the bill during the final count down of the session.
