The Senate amended <a href="http://apps2.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1047&amp;Year=2017"><strong>HB 1047</strong></a> creating a single statewide drug take-back program.

The Senate amended HB 1047 creating a single statewide drug take-back program. Drug distributors will be required to provide proposals by July 1, 2019 to establish and implement the programs. County and city programs will have 12 months after the acceptance of the proposals to wind down the local programs in favor of the state mandated program.

This is a great win for the people of Washington state. The drug suppliers will now be required to provide at least one site in every city to collect and dispose of medications that are vital for promoting health for individuals, but have a high preponderance of negative side effects. Removing these drugs out of cupboards and medicine cabinets promotes a healthier Washington.

AWC supports and encourages the House and Senate to concur on the differences in the bill.
