The House Technology & Economic Development Committee heard SB 5935, the proposal that would require cities in certain circumstances to adopt or update permitting policies for small cell facilities.

The House Technology & Economic Development Committee heard SB 5935, the proposal that would require cities in certain circumstances to adopt or update permitting policies for small cell facilities. The bill also creates the Governor's Office on Broadband Access (OBA) within the Department of Commerce, which would coordinate efforts to facilitate statewide broadband access.

While the deadline has passed for bills to advance from policy committees, this bill is deemed necessary to implement the budget (NTIB) because of the state budget impact of creating the Office on Rural Broadband.

We are told the chair intends to take the bill up later this week. Cities are circulating a few amendments needed to make the bill workable.
