SB 5049, sponsored by Sen. Curtis King (R-Yakima), would require a city to provide relocation assistance to parties displaced when property is acquired through eminent domain.

SB 5049, sponsored by Sen. Curtis King (R-Yakima), would require a city to provide relocation assistance to parties displaced when property is acquired through eminent domain. AWC asked for an amendment to ensure that cities already in the process of a capital project will not be harmed by this legislation. As a result, SB 5049 was amended by the House Judiciary Committee and no longer applies to property acquisitions initiated on or before December 21, 2017.

A special thank you to the bill’s sponsor, Sen. King, and House Judiciary Chair Rep. Laurie Jinkins (D-Tacoma), for their work with cities on this amendment.
