OLYMPIA, WA – The Association of Washington Cities (AWC) is recognizing Rep. Tana Senn (D–Mercer Island) with the 2024 City Superhero award. The award recognizes Rep. Senn’s long-standing support for cities and towns in Washington state.

“Representative Senn is proof that you can stand up for your ideals while also listening to differing perspectives,” said AWC CEO Deanna Dawson. “She knows that to make a real difference you need to advance policies that not only sound good, but that can be implemented in the real world.”

Candice Bock, AWC Director of Government Relations, noted that Rep. Senn’s experience as a city councilmember gives her unique insight into the value of municipal government.

“Washington’s cities and towns play a major role in the success of our state,” said Bock. “Representative Senn has been a consistent champion of bills supporting cities and a voice of wisdom and experience against proposals that would limit cities’ ability to serve their communities.”

“AWC thanks Representative Senn for her unwavering support for all 281 Washington cities and towns,” said Dawson.

Rep. Senn has served as state representative for the 41st Legislative District since 2013 and previously served on the Mercer Island City Council. Her district includes the cities of Bellevue, Issaquah, Mercer Island, Newcastle, and Sammamish, and the Town of Beaux Arts Village.

Rep. Senn will be honored at a Sound Cities Association dinner on June 26 in Renton.

Founded in 1933, Association of Washington Cities (AWC) is a nonprofit corporation that represents Washington’s 281 cities and towns. Membership is voluntary; however, AWC consistently maintains 100 percent participation from Washington’s 281 cities and towns.

AWC also provides training, data and publications, and programs such as the AWC Employee Benefit Trust, AWC Risk Management Service Agency, AWC Workers’ Comp Retro, AWC Drug and Alcohol Consortium, and AWC GIS Consortium.
