Renton City Councilmember Ed Prince was elected to the board of Association of Washington Cities (AWC) at the association’s annual conference, which was held in Spokane on June 20-23, 2023. The conference was attended by nearly 500 councilmembers, mayors, and partners from across Washington state. Councilmember Prince was elected to serve as the at-large representative for Western Washington.
“I am honored to be elected by my peers across the state to the AWC board of directors and excited to get to work with a wonderful group of elected officials as we advocate for our communities,” said Councilmember Prince.
Councilmember Prince is an active and engaged member of AWC. He has served on the association’s Legislative Priorities Committee, the AWC Statement of Policy Committee, and on the newly formed AWC Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Cabinet. He has earned his Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership from AWC.
Councilmember Prince is also very engaged on a regional basis. He currently serves on the Board of Sound Transit, as co-chair of the King County Regional Homelessness Authority, and as chair of the Growth Management Policy Board at the Puget Sound Regional Council. He is a past chair of the Sound Cities Association (SCA) Public Issues Committee and a past president of SCA.

Councilmember Prince is serving his third term on the Renton City Council and served as Council President in 2015 and 2018. He is a former chair of the City of Renton Planning Commission, past chair of the Renton Schools Bond and Levy Campaign, and a founding director of the Renton Community Foundation's "The Next Curve." Ed and his family reside in the Cascade neighborhood in Renton. In addition to his public service on the Renton City Council, Prince serves as the Executive Director of the Washington State Commission on African American Affairs. He is a proud Coug and served as Student Body President of Washington State University (WSU).
AWC serves its members through advocacy, education, and services. Founded in 1933, AWC is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan corporation that represents Washington's cities and towns before the state legislature, the state executive branch, and with regulatory agencies. Membership is voluntary. However, AWC consistently maintains 100% participation from Washington’s 281 cities and towns.
AWC also provides training, data and publications, and programs such as the AWC Employee Benefit Trust, AWC Risk Management Service Agency, AWC Workers’ Comp Retro, AWC Drug and Alcohol Consortium, and AWC GIS Consortium.
