AWC is recruiting city elected officials, one each, from AWC Board District 1, 14 and a large city representative from the City of Seattle, to fill vacancies on the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging Cabinet (Cabinet).
About the DEIB Cabinet
The role of the Cabinet is to advise AWC’s CEO on how we can provide our member cities and towns with the tools and support they need to lead on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). This may include (but is not limited to) making recommendations on what trainings, support, and technical assistance city officials need around DEIB.
AWC is committed to ensuring that we are an organization that is inclusive, equitable, and welcoming to all our members—and perceived as such by all our members. The DEIB Cabinet provides feedback and guidance to the CEO to help facilitate progress toward this goal, and to ensure that our organizational actions align with our values.
The Cabinet consists of up to 14 members who are city officials representing Washington cities and towns. To the greatest extent possible, the Cabinet should be representative of the diversity of our 281 member cities and towns, and the diverse populations who reside within our cities and towns. Applicants should be committed to:
- Equity: Creating systems that ensure equal access;
- Inclusion: Ensuring that all voices are heard; and
- Belonging: Creating and nurturing an environment where members feel that they are accepted, supported, and included as their authentic selves.
Time commitment
Regular Cabinet meetings are held online the first Friday in odd months from 11:30 am – 1 pm, with a shorter meeting in even months to allow for attendance at each DEIB Forum held directly after. There are no meetings in July or August.
