10 steps for a successful legislative session

  1. Meet regularly with your legislators during session.
  2. Develop your city’s legislative agenda and share it with the public, media, and legislators.
  3. Talk about the importance of cities to the state’s budget and to your shared constituents.
  4. Make yourself a resource for your legislators and ask how you can support them.
  5. Work with your local media to tell your story before, during, and after session.
  6. Attend meetings with legislators prepared with facts, stories, and concise materials.
  7. Communicate with constituents about what the Legislature is working on and how your city is faring.
  8. Inform community members about what your legislators are doing during session.
  9. Register for AWC city action calls every Friday to gain ideas and updates.
  10. Take advantage of testimony options during the session and testify on a bill in a committee hearing.
