AWC Center for Quality Communities scholarships are now available for outstanding young leaders in Washington's cities and towns. Your city can nominate one young leader who plans to attend college or a trade school this fall. Six $1,000 scholarships will be awarded in May. Nominations are due March 8.

DAHP seeks your input on the state historic preservation plan
The State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) invites you to provide your comments to help shape the Washington Historic Preservation Plan for 2019 to 2024. Local governments are a vital partner in helping to implement the plan. Through surveys, DAHP found that historic preservation is an intensely local issue. Your residents care deeply about and have strong attachments to the historic places and spaces that comprise our built environment. Visit the DAHP website to anonymously respond to the 14 questions.

Click through to see five short videos that simply explain sewers, population growth, revenues & expenses, city streets, and property taxes. Feel free to share these videos with your community members and stakeholders to help educate them on the importance of Washington cities!

CERB increases construction funding limits
The Community Economic Revitalization Board (CERB) increased their per-project construction funding limits through the end of the 2017-2019 biennium. CERB is now offering $3 million max per project for core CERB construction projects, and $2 million max per project for rural broadband construction projects. These increases are only available until June 30, 2019. The next construction application deadline is March 18.

CDBG General Purpose Grant workshops

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) General Purpose Grants are available annually to help small cities and towns (under 50,000) carry out significant community and economic development projects that principally benefit low- and moderate-income persons. Grants amounting up to $750,000 for construction and $24,000 for planning are available in 2019. Attend a workshop in March to learn more. Applications are due June 5.
