New fall dates for the Short Course on Local Planning
The Short Course is the preeminent training tool on land use for local officials in Washington. This three-hour workshop covers comprehensive planning and plan implementation under the state Growth Management Act (GMA). Content covers land use planning laws, Open Public Meeting Act requirements, and planning best practices. On July 19, several NW media outlets led a media collaboration to highlight homelessness issues across the region. AWC tweeted and tagged multiple resources and data to show that homelessness impacts cities of all sizes throughout the state. Check our Twitter feed to catch up. More
Municipal Excellence award winner highlight
The Lakewood Police Department developed a program that allows officers to draw blood during impaired driving investigations. Lakewood PD certified six officers as phlebotomists to draw blood under specific circumstances. Because the program is the first of its kind in Washington, it was critical to educate the community about the reasons behind the blood draws and the immediate impacts on public safety.
