UW Livable City Year seeks a 2019-20 municipal partner
The University of Washington’s Livable City Year (LCY) initiative is now accepting proposals from cities interested in partnering with the university for the 2019-2020 academic year. LCY connects UW faculty and students with a municipal partner to work on city-identified projects fostering livability and sustainability. Municipal partners benefit from tens of thousands of hours of research and study by UW students and faculty members across a variety of disciplines. Proposals are due February 1, 2019.
Washington officials continue to represent on NLC board and committees
The National League of Cities (NLC) City Summit wrapped up in Los Angeles on Saturday with the Annual Meeting. Washington city officials continue to represent our state on the NLC Board of Directors and advocacy committees. Board members are Lacey Mayor Andy Ryder, Shoreline Councilmember Doris McConnell, and Auburn Councilmember Bill Peloza. Additionally, Tukwila Councilmember Kate Kruller was appointed Vice-Chair of the NLC Transportation & Infrastructure Services Committee. There is still time for officials from NLC member cities to apply for a committee, group, or council. Deadline is November 30.

There will be no CityVoice issue on Wednesday, November 21 in observance of Thanksgiving. We are thankful for you and hope you have a safe and happy Thanksgiving! The AWC office will be closed on November 22 and 23.

DOJ Justice for Families Program
The Department of Justice (DOJ) Office on Violence Against Women announced a grant program designed to improve the response of the civil and criminal justice system to families with a history of sexual assault, domestic violence, dating violence, stalking, and child sexual abuse. The program supports activities that improve the courts’ capacity to respond to victim families. Awards range from $550,000 to $650,000 and the application deadline is January 8. |
