AWC seeks a city elected official to serve on the Building Code Council.
About the Building Code Council
The Building Code Council is a state agency created by the legislature to provide independent analysis and objective advice to the legislature and the Governor’s Office on state building code issues. The Council of 20 individuals establishes the minimum building, mechanical, fire, plumbing, and energy code requirements necessary to promote the health, safety, and welfare of the people of Washington State by reviewing, developing, and adopting the state building code.
The council consists of county and city elected officials, a building code enforcement official, a fire service official, representatives of the private sector or professional organizations, and others. At least six of the 15 members appointed by the Governor must be from the east side of the state. Learn more about the Building Code Council.
Time commitment
The committee meets multiple times throughout the year. Members serve without compensation and may be reimbursed for travel expenses.
Application process
The AWC Board of Directors will review applications at its next meeting and submit multiple nominees to the Governor’s Office for consideration of appointment. Final appointment of one individual will be made by the Governor.
Those interested in serving must complete both steps below:
- Complete the AWC interest form stating why you are interested in serving, including your qualifications and attached resume.
- Complete the application for gubernatorial appointment. This application is sent directly to the Governor's Office and will not be part of the materials reviewed by the AWC Board of Directors. Therefore, it is important that your AWC interest form provide details pertinent to this position.
