New bill would require drive-up services to allow bikes and pedestrians

Contact: Brandy DeLange

SB 5903, sponsored by Sen. Billig (D–Spokane), would require any drive-up service, public or private, to allow multimodal transportation alternatives to access services. If the new requirement were to pose a traffic safety hazard, an alternative lane(s) would have to be made available.

At this time, AWC is not aware of existing municipal ordinances that would conflict with the introduced bill. If your city does have an ordinance that would conflict with the proposed legislation, or you are contemplating making a change to an ordinance that would be impacted, please contact Brandy DeLange.

Date to remember

SB 5903 will be heard in the Senate Transportation committee on Monday, January 31 at 4 pm.
