A new bill would authorize automated enforcement in school walk areas and allow cities to adopt 20 mph speed limit on any non-arterial highway.

SB 5687, sponsored by Sens. Claire Wilson (D–Federal Way) and Marko Liias (D–Edmonds), authorizes cities to adopt a maximum speed limit up to 20 mph on any non-arterial highway. Additionally, the bill authorizes cities to install traffic safety cameras and issue speed violations on roadways identified in a school walk area.

AWC supports this bill.
