AGO affirms cities’ ability to participate in coordinated negotiations with opioid distributors

Contact: Sharon Swanson, Jacob Ewing

In a recent letter to a group of city attorneys, the Attorney General’s Office (AGO) encouraged cities to form a negotiating group for potential settlements with opioid distributors.

In the letter signed by Jeffrey Rupert, Division Chief of the Complex Litigation Division, Rupert stated that he and the Attorney General are committed to preserving local governments’ legal claims against opioid distributors as well as letting local governments make their own decisions on whether to continue with litigation or to settle. Additionally, the AGO has no intentions of accepting a settlement with opioid distributors that would block or impair a local government's ability to file claim against those distributors.

If you have questions about the letter, please contact Jeffrey Rupert.
