Grant program to address local culverts accepting proposals

Contact: Carl Schroeder, Shannon McClelland

The Brian Abbott Fish Barrier Removal Board (FBRB) is accepting proposals until January 15 for fish passage projects via FBRB grant program funding.

We encourage you to consider whether this grant program presents an opportunity for your city to participate in this important work. A critical element of the program is that FBRB intends to fund correction of the barriers farthest downstream first, to maximize habitat gain.

Background information

AWC has been closely coordinating with the state on a strategic approach to culvert correction to benefit endangered salmon and steelhead recovery. We will continue our efforts to persuade the state to broaden its vision to include support for addressing barriers owned by local governments.

The more cities that apply and take advantage of these programs, the better it will be for our long-term efforts.
