Injured worker benefit payment bill set for hearing

SB 5217 was introduced by Sen. Karen Keiser (D-Des Moines), chair of the Senate Labor & Commerce Committee.

The bill:

  • Revises the computation for calculating monthly wages for injured workers who qualify for workers’ compensation benefits;
  • Redefines wages to include overtime, shift differentials, and paid leave; and
  • Offers reimbursement eligibility to employers who pay a worker's portion of a health insurance premium in addition to the employer portion after a claim is filed.
