Is L&I calling you?

Contact: Retro staff

Recently, the L&I Early Claims Team (ECT) has been contacting Retro members when their employees file a claim for an injury. In some cases, the ECT is contacting members who have previously made a request not to be called.

Phone calls increasing

The ECT began making calls in February 2017, then these calls waned for a bit, and recently, picked back up again for no apparent reason.

AWC Retro and the ECT both have a common goal for your injured workers:

  • Minimize workplace injuries
  • Safely return your injured employees to light-duty or job of injury
  • Reduce your experience factor

What to do if you receive a call

  • You are not obligated to provide any information requested when an ECT representative calls you, nor are you obligated to return a message left by an ECT representative. They are looking for the same information, employee wages, last day worked, and light-duty availability as the information we obtain from you and provide to the L&I claims managers.
  • In some cases, L&I is calling to tell you about the claim before you or AWC Retro knows it happened. At this point, thank the caller and let them know AWC Retro will provide all the necessary information to L&I. Next, gather as much information about the injury as you can and then contact AWC Retro staff by email or call 800-562-8981.
  • If you would like to stop receiving these calls, make your request by sending an email to: April Ebeling to ebea235@lni.wa.gov.

Feel free to talk with the ECT representative when they call. If you prefer to receive an email instead of future phone calls, you may ask them to send you an email notification in the future.
