Improving asset management for a utility district – A case study
Snoqualmie Pass Utility District (SPUD) managers realized they needed a new way to efficiently track water and sewer assets. Their existing asset management system was cumbersome, based on paper records and the institutional knowledge of several long-time staff members who were departing. SPUD joined the AWC GIS Consortium and got the tools they needed to be the best-possible stewards of their utility assets. Learn how in our case study.
Recruiting members for AWC Board Nominating Committee
AWC is seeking elected officials interested in serving on the 2019 AWC Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee recruits, interviews, and selects a list of potential candidates for election to the AWC Board of Directors at AWC's Annual Conference in June. Deadline to apply is January 11. More

Comment on NOAA Fisheries Puget Sound Steelhead Distinct Population Segment plan
NOAA Fisheries recently released the draft recovery plan for the Puget Sound Steelhead Distinct Population Segment (DPS). The recovery plan identifies how to recover DPS in freshwater, estuarine, and marine environments. Comment on the proposed plan by February 11.

Paid Family and Medical Leave (PFML) premium collection
PFML premium collection and data reporting begins on January 1, 2019. Employers will be required to remit premiums and report employee data to the Employment Security Department quarterly, starting on April 30, 2019. AWC put together a resource page to help cities prepare for the new law.
Governor Inslee asks for $30 million in new spending to combat opioid addiction
The Governor’s proposal includes $19.3 million dedicated to treatment and recovery and $10.7 million dedicated to prevention. Included in the Governor’s proposal:
- Providing funding for four new 16-bed sites that enable parents and children to live together during treatment;
- Enhanced peer support to connect those in recovery; and
- Alternative pain management to provide access to nonpharmacological interventions, such as chiropractic care.
