LRILogoWoman100$18 million available to bring broadband to unserved Washington communities
The Washington State Public Works Board is accepting applications for broadband infrastructure construction grants and loans to provide broadband internet to unserved areas of the state. Approximately $9.1 million is available for low-interest loans and $8.6 million for grants. Applicants must contact local internet service providers at least six weeks prior to submission. Applications are due by September 9.

Changes in Washington overtime rules effective July 1 
New overtime rules establishing what types of workers qualify for overtime pay took effect on July 1. Under the new rules, employers can use an updated job duties test to determine which workers are considered executive, administrative, and professional employees, as well as to determine whether an employee is classified as exempt. More information is available on the L&I webpage for overtime rulemaking and tools can be found on the Resource Center webpage

The ongoing pandemic is stressful for everyone. One way to reduce and manage stress is with physical activity. Employers can promote Kaiser Permanente’s Seattle to Portland (STP) Virtual Challenge to employees. The virtual STP bike ride is a free event that helps support the goal of staying healthy – while allowing everyone to maintain physical distance from one another. Participants are invited to set their own course and pace as they ride a total of 200 miles any time between July 18 and August 6.
