AWC & partners' infrastructure report gains traction
AWC partnered with the business, county, and port associations in 2017 to create a comprehensive report about Washington’s infrastructure needs. We shared the report with Washington’s congressional delegation to position our state for anticipated federal infrastructure funding, and to outline our needs and benefits to our economy. U.S. Communities can help fight opioid crisis
Increased access to overdose-reversing drugs is a critical component of the emergency treatment of opioid overdoses taking place in cities across the state. To help, the U.S. Communities Government Purchasing Alliance has partnered to offer a potentially lifesaving opioid withdrawal medication, a ready-to-use nasal spray that counteracts the effects of an opioid overdose. National survey to identify training & technical assistance priorities The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) is looking for feedback on training and technical assistance provided by the Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Center. Your survey response will help set national program priorities. The current national strategic plan focus areas are safety, infrastructure management, and workforce development. Prescription drug take-back bill passes in the House
On Feb. 9, the Washington State House of Representatives passed HB 1047, a major milestone for the long-running effort to start a producer-funded medication take-back program throughout the state. The program has the potential to reduce the availability and abuse of unused prescription opioids as patients will have a new option to safely dispose of excess or unneeded medications, if this legislation is enacted. The document recording fee bill passes major milestone in the House

States and local governments await the Supreme Court’s decision in South Dakota v. Wayfair where the court may begin to allow states and local governments to require retailers with no in-state physical presence to collect sales tax. Since last fall, the court has also agreed to rule on the third travel ban, another partisan gerrymandering case, and a number of First Amendment free speech cases. More

Brian Abbott Fish Barrier Removal Board (FBRB) grant
This new grant program for removing fish barriers is administered jointly by the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife and the Recreation and Conservation Office. Projects must correct fish passage barriers that impact salmonids and the projects must be near or in coordination with other fish passage investments. Applications are due March 29. More
