Mayors ExchangeCity Action Days was cancelled due to the weather, but you can still catch these legislative resources
We cancelled our popular City Action Days this week due to weather. But you can still find some great virtual legislative resources below!

Mayors ExchangeTalk to your lobbyists LiveStream
February 14 | Noon
Every year at City Action Days we host a popular session where attendees gather with AWC’s government relations team to hear about some of cities’ most important issues. We’re glad to announce that we will still have the session this year! Grab your lunch and join the LiveStream from anywhere! The event is free, but we still need you to register. Your registration gives you access to view live or watch the recording later.

Bill hot sheet
Next Friday, Feb. 22 is an important legislative cutoff deadline, where policy bills need to pass through their respective committees to keep moving through the process. We’re tracking a slew of bills that have city impacts, and have compiled them into a hot sheet one-pager so you can follow along. We’ll address many of these bills during the LiveStream and you can use it to meet with your legislators over the phone or in person.

Legislative priority fact sheets
We’ve also updated our legislative priority fact sheets to include bill numbers that address some of the items within each priority. Check them out and print them for legislator meetings!

Mayors ExchangeConversation heart candy for legislators
Get the conversation started! Our City Action Days swag included these heatfelt gifts for legislators. These Valentine’s Day-themed conversation hearts reiterate the special relationship between cities, towns, and the state. If you’re still meeting with legislators on Thursday, drop by the AWC office to get yours. If not, we plan to blanket legislators’ offices with the gifts on Capitol Campus that day, so make sure to bring them up with your legislator the next time you talk!

Mayors ExchangeCityVoice podcast: The Public Works Trust Fund and fixing fish-blocking culverts
Washington state's infrastructure is in serious need of repair. Listen in as members of AWC's legislative team discuss the prospects for the Public Works Trust Fund and a comprehensive approach to fixing the state's culverts.

Thank you, city staff
Thank you to the police officers, firefighters, public works crews, 911 operators, and all the city and other public employees who venture out into snow storms on our behalf. We appreciate your hard work and dedication. We depend on you to clear the roads, keep utilities operating, and so much more. Thank you for all you do!

Catch these four things you can do in absence of City Action Days:

  1. If you had an in-person legislator meeting scheduled this week, you can always turn it into a phone meeting.
  2. Even if you didn’t have a meeting scheduled with your legislator, reach out to them with a phone call or email and remind them of your city’s and AWC’s priorities.
  3. Find out when your legislator will be hosting a local town hall meeting and plan to attend.
  4. Check out AWC’s bill hot sheet and share it with your legislators.

Snow closes the Capitol

Snow hit the Capitol and much of the state this weekend resulting in the Legislature cancelling all committee meetings for Monday, February 11. This is the first time that most people can recall the Legislature taking that step in the last 25 years or so. Several important legislative cutoff deadlines are approaching. Learn more ways that you can get involved in the coming weeks.

Catch the highlights from Monday's Legislative Bulletin:

  • House’s version of a housing and density bill is introduced. More
  • Bill to require public fleets to become electric by late 2020s. More
  • First-responder occupational disease bills get hearings. More
