AWC is seeking elected officials interested in serving on the 2019 AWC Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee recruits, interviews, and selects a list of potential candidates for election to the AWC Board of Directors at AWC's Annual Conference in June. Hurry! Get Involved! Education Advisory Committee recruitment
AWC is seeking applications from volunteers to serve on the AWC Education Advisory Committee (EAC). The EAC serves as a resource to AWC staff, helping to identify educational opportunities that are valuable to our members, advising on a certificate program that recognizes educational accomplishments of elected officials, and joining the discussion on appropriate educational delivery methods. City elected officials and non-elected officials are welcome to apply. Applications due January 18.

Calling small cities! Apply for the Small City Advisory Committee
AWC is seeking applications from two eastern WA volunteers to serve on the AWC Small City Advisory Committee (SCAC) beginning in 2019. The SCAC serves as a resource to AWC staff, helping to identify issues and opportunities relevant to small cities. Find out more and submit your resume and letter of interest by January 18.

Make the American Planners Association Foundation your grant partner
The Funders' Network has requested proposals for $25,000 to $150,000 grants for one- or two-year local projects to promote a healthy environment, a strong economy, and the well-being of all residents. If you or your community have a project in mind and are interested in partnering with the APA Foundation, contact foundation@planning.org. Proposals are due by January 31.

Impacted by the 911 outage? The Attorney General wants to hear your story
Attorney General Bob Ferguson is soliciting stories of those affected by last month’s statewide 911 outage. Washingtonians are encouraged to share their experiences with the AG’s office. The outage, which lasted more than 12 hours between Dec. 27 and 28, resulted in CenturyLink being fined almost $2.9 million by the state Utilities & Transportation Commission (UTC).

Cities and the shutdown
A partial shutdown of the federal government was initiated on December 21, 2018 when the White House and Congress failed to reach agreement on seven appropriations spending bills.
