Dear city leaders,

On April 27, Governor Inslee directed $300 million of Washington state’s federal CARES funding to cities and counties to cover critical expenses related to the COVID-19 pandemic. As of July 1, your city has not started the process to accept Local Government Coronavirus Relief Funds (CRF) from the Department of Commerce.

Your city is eligible to receive a per capita distribution of $30 with a minimum distribution of $25,000. A complete list of CRF award amounts for each city is available here.

CRF funds may be used for COVID-19 related expenses your city incurred while responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Allowable expenses include, but are not limited to:

• Public health expenses, including costs associated with disinfecting public areas and other facilities;
• Payroll expenses for employees whose services are substantially dedicated to mitigating or responding to the COVID-19 public health emergency, including salaries for public safety employees;
• Expenses of actions to facilitate compliance with COVID-19-related health measures, including telework expenses; and
• Expenses associated with the provision of economic support in connection with the COVID-19 public health emergency, including grants to small businesses interrupted by required closures.

CRF funds are only available for cities to use until October 31, 2020. If you do not claim the funding by then, you won’t be able to get CRF funds.
