Hit the ground running

There’s a lot you need to know if you want to make an impact while in office. Hit the ground running by taking advantage of AWC’s year-round trainings that are mobile, meaningful, and manageable for your busy life as a city official.

  • Elected Officials Essentials Workshop: These workshop recordings are a must-see for every newly elected mayor and councilmember. Expert presenters help you find your bearings and the legal framework of holding office.
  • Open government training: Within 90 days of taking office (and every four years thereafter), mayors and councilmembers in Washington are required to complete training on public records, open public meetings, and records retention. Find resources to meet these legal requirements.
  • So much more! Join us for upcoming online and in-person trainings and events, and explore our eLearning library for education on your own time. Demonstrate your commitment to municipal leadership as you learn: Earn educational credits and be recognized with the Certificate of Municipal Leadership!

  • Education: AWC trainings, along with our research and publications, help city leaders deepen their understanding of city issues, make fact-based decisions, identify trends, and explore new ways to approach city issues.
  • Services: AWC’s member pooling programs keep overall costs lower and more predictable, allowing our members more time to invest in their community.
