Mobile gas operators could soon be coming to Washington after legislation makes it through both the House and Senate.

Mobile gas operators could soon be coming to Washington after legislation makes it through both the House and Senate.

HB 2783 directs the Washington State Building Code Council (SBCC) to create rules establishing standards and administrative provisions for mobile on-demand fuel operators. These rules must address:

  • Certification process for mobile on-demand fuel operators;
  • Certification or permitting process for mobile on-demand fuel trucks; and
  • A site permit structure providing at least two tiers of permits:
    • Tier 1 will include standardized sites that may not require additional inspection.
    • Tier 2 will include all other sites that may require additional inspection.

If a city chooses to allow mobile fuel operators in their jurisdiction, the city is required to process site permit requests from on-demand fuel operators. Cities may charge fees to offset the cost of inspecting or issuing permits.

The SBCC must have rules and provisions finalized and ready for local jurisdictions by May 2021.

HB 2783 now heads to the Governor’s desk for signature.
