The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries is taking input from interested parties to update the rules regarding the state’s minimum wage exemptions.
The purpose of the new rulemaking is to update Chapter 296-128 WAC, Minimum Wages, regarding exemptions for employees working in an executive, administrative, or professional capacity. Since 1976, exemption rules have been largely untouched and, according to the department, currently exempt more workers than originally intended. The new rulemaking aims to restore appropriate function to the exemption rules.
To provide input in the decision to adopt these new rules before publication, contact Logan Bahr at AWC or Joshua Grice with the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries.
