Bill prohibiting employers from seeking salary history scheduled for Senate hearing

ESHB 1696, concerning wage and salary information, is scheduled for a hearing in the Senate Labor & Commerce Committee. This bill would prohibit employers from seeking salary history from job applicants. Additionally, ESHB 1696 requires employers to provide a position’s wage scale or salary range upon receipt of a new job title or promotion. ESHB 1696 would also allow an employee to bring a civil action against employers who violate this statute.

The stated policy goal is to promote gender equity and economic equality.
