Grandfathering ADU bill will be heard in the House

Contact: Carl Schroeder, Shannon McClelland

SB 5812, the accessory dwelling unit (ADU) proposal still alive after cutoffs, is scheduled for a public hearing in the House. This bill has changed significantly since its introduction. As passed by the Senate, SB 5812 exempts any city that has an ADU ordinance in place before the effective date of the proposed law. To see what this bill now does and where it started, see our previous article.

If you are a city:

  • With a legislator that is a member of the House Local Government Committee (see below); and
  • Your city has adopted ADU ordinances or regulations;

Then let them know you appreciate and support the grandfathering language that honors the work that your city has done on this issue. Ask the legislators to keep this provision in any bill that moves forward.
