AWC collecting information on city adoption of the model license threshold

Contact: Andrew Pittelkau, Sheila Gall

As the January 1, 2019 deadline for all cities to adopt required changes to business licenses approaches, AWC is collecting information on what cities have adopted.

The mandatory model license provisions include a minimum business activity threshold for non-resident businesses and a uniform definition of engaging in business. AWC is required to report to the Legislature on city implementation of the model threshold by January 1, 2019.

More than 80 cities that partnered with the state's Business Licensing Service (BLS) had an earlier deadline of October 17, 2018 to comply and notify BLS on which of the two threshold options they chose.

Check out AWC’s updated white paper for more information. The white paper now includes a sample letter that cities can use to communicate their changes to business licensees in the community.
