Deadline approaching for BLS partner cities to adopt model license provisions

Contact: Victoria Lincoln, Sheila Gall, Andrew Pittelkau

Cities partnered with the state's Business Licensing Service (BLS) must meet the deadline of October 17, 2018, to comply with a new state law requiring cities to adopt changes to their business license ordinance. The mandatory model license provisions include a minimum business activity threshold for non-resident businesses and a uniform definition of engaging in business. Failure to comply would preempt a city’s business license authority.

All other cities with business licenses must adopt the changes by January 1, 2019.

AWC worked with a group of cities to draft the model language to use in the ordinance. Check out AWC’s white paper for more information and a link to the recording of our August 8 webinar.
