Federal, state, and local government agencies rely on census data for planning and delivering education, economic development, employment, health, and transportation services to our communities. For local governments, the U.S. census is just as critical. Census data determines the allocation of roughly $200 million to counties and cities from the state general fund annually. But it is not just governments that use census data to plan, budget, and make policy. Businesses, developers, emergency management, citizen organizations, and residents also rely heavily on census data to support their efforts.

Recently, Washington Nonprofits released its 2020 Census Action Kit designed to build awareness about the census and encourage people to be counted. The Office of Financial Management has also developed several resources that can be used to assist local efforts. Stay tuned for more information and resources supporting the 2020 Census.
