The Washington State Office of Public Defense (OPD) is now accepting grant applications from cities for public defense improvement funds pursuant to RCW 10.101.050-080. Over the past two years 30 cities received competitive grants ranging from $2,500 to $93,500 to improve the quality of legal representation received by indigent defendants.

The deadline for this year’s application is Friday, August 23. Please return your signed, completed application and attachments in PDF by email to nicole.dodge@opd.wa.gov. OPD will send preliminary notification of grant awards and denials by late September.

If you have any questions about the grant program or what would be appropriate uses of state funds, please visit the OPD website or contact katrin.johnson@opd.wa.gov.
